Office Campus
For Subsea7
The Subsea7 campus building was completed in September 2008, and has now been occupied by almost 1200 staff. The building was designed from the outset to achieve a "Very Good" BREEAM rating, and its completion has allowed Subsea7 to consolidate the bases they previously had, scattered around Aberdeen at Dyce, Westhill and Tullos. The new building consists of around 14,000 sq.m. of accommodation, spread over four storeys and split into wings which are arranged in a "pinwheel" plan.
The heart of the building is its atrium, which acts as a circulation spine, linking the office wings together, creating an indoor street, and also giving onto the multi-purpose restaurant. This doubles as a "town hall" space where the staff gather for presentations and meetings, enabling several hundred people to come together. The luminous quality of the atrium was revealed when the "birdcage" of scaffolding was struck, and natural light flooded down from the glazed roofs overhead: open galleries, and glass-fronted lifts make the most of this unique space.
Each face of the building is clad with a high-specification curtain walling system, glazed in with neutral "Suncool" glass which prevents overheating in the offices, whilst allowing natural light to pass through unhindered. In conjunction with this, a series of brise soleils blades mounted on the outside, and roller blinds on the inside, control the quality of light internally, and help to prevent glare.
Externally, the landscaping works have created a series of rolling berms which shelter a terrace extending out from the restaurant, and also enfold a pond complete with a footbridge which completes a circuit of footpaths around the site.
Subsea7 Campus development was awarded a 'Highly Commended' award in the 2010 Aberdeenshire Design Awards
The development was also awarded Commendation in Public/Commercial category of the 2010 Aberdeen Society of Architects Awards
